Damage-free failure/defect analysis in electronics and semiconductor industries using micro-ATR FTIR imaging

چکیده

The electronics and semiconductor industries rely heavily on failure and defect analysis to maximize productivity and minimize expensive downtime. As technology improves, manufactured devices get smaller and the processes used to make them become more intricate. Costly downtime associated with the presence of particulate and chemical contamination becomes more critical to a successful manufacturing operation. Any contamination requires the manufacturing process to stop while the defect is accurately and reliably characterized, the source identifi ed, and the problem remedied. Minimizing the time needed to complete this process can quite literally save millions of dollars. FTIR spectroscopic imaging of live cancer cells

FTIR spectroscopic imaging allows the visualization of the distribution of chemical components in cells. However, obtaining images of living cells is difficult because of the strong absorption of water in the mid-infrared region. The use of attenuated total reflection (ATR) FTIR spectroscopic imaging provides a possibility to study tissues or live cells in an aqueous environment.[1] This approa...

Identifying contaminants in synthetic polymers and rubbers using micro-ATR FTIR imaging

Contaminants are easily introduced at any stage in the manufacturing process via extraneous input from the factory environment, tooling residue, off-specifi cation raw materials, and minor deviations in processing tolerances. Rapid and effective resolution of any contamination issue relies heavily on ensuring that deviations from critical specifi cations are rapidly identifi ed and the causes t...

Micro ATR-FTIR spectroscopic imaging of atherosclerosis: an investigation of the contribution of inducible nitric oxide synthase to lesion composition in ApoE-null mice.

Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) has previously been shown to contribute to atherosclerotic lesion formation and protein nitration. Micro attenuated total reflection (ATR)-Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic imaging was applied ex vivo to analyse lesions in atherosclerotic (ApoE-/-) mice. Histologies of cardiovascular tissue of ApoE-/- mice that contain the gene for iNOS and A...

Using Femtosecond Laser to Fabricate the Interior 3D Technical Communication Structures of Polymeric Microfluidic Biochips

We have successfully employed femtosecond laser to craft microstructures on polymeric substrate to imbed micro-mixiers. Since the laser pulse is ultra-short, the heat affected zone is not significant. Therefore the thermal melting damage is not as severe as that using continuous carbon dioxide laser. As a result, using femtosecond laser the fabrications of reproducible and defined micro-structu...

Micro ATR FTIR imaging of hanging drop protein crystallisation

Protein crystallisation is of great importance within structural proteomic projects where considerable time and effort is spent trying to obtain high resolution structural information from the X-ray diffraction of protein crystals. The crystallisation process is largely empirical due to a lack of understanding of crystallisation kinetics and it is often very challenging to obtain crystals of su...
